While we may have been able to convince ourselves that
"worship" is just a Sunday morning thing from 11 to 12, I
hope that we realize that it is much, much more than that! God
doesn't want us to compartmentalize our worship of Him to such a
narrow area of our time and activity.
Since we know that He created us to enjoy us, that He lacked nothing and is totally self- sufficient in Himself, but does desire our worship and attention, we are expected to return His love. And Romans 12:1 says,
"Take your everyday ordinary life, your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life- and place it before God as an offering".
And this is so because God had already told us in Hosea 6:6,
"I don't want your sacrifices. I want your love. I don't want your offerings. I want you to know me"
This is really where we become serious about our relationship with God. We can not approach the worship of Almighty God as a duty, something we just have to do and then get out of the way so that we can really get to what is the most important thing in the world to us at that particular time. There is no way to fool God about this desire we have like we might have done as a child with something on our plate we didn't like but ate in a gulp to get it off our plate so we could focus on the really good stuff. And I can't help but think that at times we have done that as well when we attend worship on the way to something else later in the day. This says that God isn't really that important and we'll just tip our hat to him on the way to something better. I know that this may sound harsh but if your heart affirms that it is true for you the good thing with this is that God may be preparing you for something even better! What we must do is acknowledge it to the Lord, repent and ask His forgiveness and then the power to realign our priorities and put Him first. If you are not sure this is the case with you please do the following two things. First, look at your checkbook to see what return God is getting from His investment in you. Second, look at your day timer or calendar to see how much of your time is set apart for the Lord. If you need to make these necessary adjustments do it now while you are considering it because the longer you put it off, the less likely it will happen. Remember you were wired to worship God. He put it into your DNA. Everyone worships something but only the worship of God will bring peace and satisfaction and eternal enjoyment in God's presence. Giving Him our very best is the very best we can do.
